Yulia Brockdorf is an Advisory Board Member of The Ukrainian Foundation, based in Portland, Oregon, and a proud partner of Designs for Health® (DFH).

Yulia Head Shot (2)Brockdorf is a dietician and mental health counselor who uses an integrative health approach to trauma, including services-related trauma for veterans and their families.

At daybreak, before her first appointment, Brockdorf is already hard at work coordinating the final logistics for the next shipment of lifesaving supplies to Ukrainian hospitals. With Russia's invasion of Ukraine, every moment is of the essence to support and empower the people of Ukraine.

"Every minute, every day, people's lives are at stake," stated Brockdorf.

Based in Portland, Oregon, home to more than 100,000 immigrants from Ukraine, Brockdorf is part of The Ukrainian Foundation, working collaboratively with the Ukrainian-American Cultural Association of Oregon & Southwest Washington and NOVA Ukraine.

They are part of the global effort to help fill the unmet needs of displaced Ukrainians both in and out of the country — diligently collecting needed items and organizing cargo and passenger airplane shipments of urgent medical supplies for Ukraine.

With a commitment to restore, maintain, and preserve the health and wellness of all people, Designs for Health was one of the first to respond to the Foundation's request for supplies with our donation of Silvercillin™ Spray to help support a healthy immune system.* This was sent alongside tactical first aid kits (with tourniquets and hemostatic gauze) to be distributed to individuals in need.

Collectively, the foundation has delivered more than $500,000 worth of basic medical and necessary front-line supplies to Ukrainian hospitals. Solely managed by volunteers, these donations go through a complex chain of custody, overseas, and across borders, before they eventually land in possession of the Ministry of Health in Ukraine and local non-profit organizations for distribution.

Through donations from local hospitals and organizations, such as Designs for Health, The Ukrainian Foundation has already contributed 87 pallets of medical and health-supporting supplies to Ukrainian hospitals, with 27 more scheduled for flight and another 16 in the queue.

Brockdorf’s aid to Ukraine began many years ago while completing a hospital internship rotation. She witnessed an overabundance of supplies that were going to waste due to cutting-edge advances within the medical field.

Conversely, Brockdorf’s home country of Ukraine was struggling to obtain medical supplies, so she utilized this opportunity and offered global sustainable solutions by founding a US-based non-profit organization called Supplies for Life. For more than a decade, Supplies for Life has provided crucial medical equipment to Ukraine and supported educational opportunities for medical personnel.

Fast-forward more than a decade later, amidst the current devastation, medical facilities are being destroyed precisely in areas where needs are becoming most acute. Therefore, these supplies are a lifeline for critical surgeries, injuries, and other immediate care needs for the wounded.

It's not just the physical donations that make a difference, but the support and hope for the citizens of Ukraine by demonstrating that people worldwide, including DFH, have their back.

Although these efforts are ongoing, there is more work to be done.
