User-Generated Content to Grow and Glow: Tips on Where, Why, and How to Share

User-generated content (UGC), or user-created content, is shared by an external source to online platforms such as websites or social media sites. This content creation is authentic and reliable, which is why it’s so effective — not to mention free.

Here are some tips on where, why, and how to share UGC:

  1. Find the most effective platform for your audience. Instead of being everywhere online, tap into the platform where you will have the greatest audience.
  2. Remember it is accurate, not curated, content that provides trust, loyalty, and the authenticity people are seeking. USG should not be curated content. Instead, it should support a user capturing or documenting “real-life” situations through an image or video. Research shows that accidental or unintentional content posted is rising in 2023. Therefore, curated or intentional content is on the decline.
  3. Let your patients know you’re on social media, so they can tag you in a post. Or have your patients leave a testimonial on your website. Then repost your patients’ UGC to your social media channel (e.g., stories work well). Or create testimonials on your website; these are the equivalent of a personal referral — freely promoting a product or service you offer.
